In this talk, I will start from Schrödinger’s coherent states and broaden the theory to two-dimensional problem which is related to laser system under paraxial approximation. The paraxial wave equation for the spherical resonator has the identical form with Schrödinger equation for the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator. Furthermore, the superposition of coherent states not only leads to various kinds of patterns but also helps us to understand the relation between quantum and classical regime. Several interesting experimental results and theoretical analyses will be included in the presentation. The analogy of quantum and optical waves may provide some useful insights into the nature of mesoscopic wave functions. |
