(線上演講 online talk) Towards THz imaging for in-vivo medical diagnosis

University laboratories have shown that terahertz (THz) radiation is poised to have an essential role in many imaging applications from industrial inspections to medical diagnosis, however, the commercialization of such ideas is prevented by unpractical and expensive THz instrumentation. Employing a single-pixel detector with time-varying spatial-light masks has emerged as an alternative imaging technique due to reduced costs and superior durability over multipixel detectors. Here, I give an overview of my past research in THz imaging with single-pixel detectors, from experimental implementation to uses in semiconductor quality control and biomedical studies. The current research optimizes the factors that affect the efficiency and speed of this THz imaging modality in order to show the possibility of reaching a mask modulation rate of 20kHz, a limit imposed by the digital micromirror device used to physically project the spatial encoding masks.  This work opens a possible avenue towards cheap, robust and rapid THz imaging systems. The final part of the seminar will outline the ultimate goal of this research, bio-medical diagnosis, and also the future improvements of the imaging system needed for this goal. Namely, achieving polarization resolved imaging, mounting the system on robotic arm and looking at quicker THz-modulation devices for even faster acquisition rates.
