Supporting the development of quantum devices with NV magnetometry

In recent years, the need for novel materials to boost storage and computation capabilities and keep up with the second quantum revolution has increased tremendously. Nanoscale magnetism plays a crucial role in identifying potential materials for developing future quantum devices. Standard magnetic imaging techniques, however, struggle to assess magnetic properties at the nanoscale without invasively perturbing the materials' magnetic order. We present here a new quantum microscope based on NV center technology and show how it's already used today to advance research in materials science and spintronics. We review challenges specific to developing quantum technologies and highlight further opportunities in quantum metrology.
